They're preparing for a duel aka a big fight against the Ten Swords, with Kenshin having the most important role here. Obviously, they needed another cour for this arc to work so this episode serves like a cliffhanger for the arc. Good to see Kaoru and Kenshin still have a close bond this season since they haven't been together as often compared to the previous season. What an arc this been so far, just filled with emotions. |

Damn man, as if it wasn't already enough that this ending, they also decided to drop the little montage OP instead of the normal one, just really setting it in stone :( Anyways, poor Sano man, dude is just straight up unknown around everywhere lmao. First it was Makoto disrespecting bro on the ship, and now it's here with Misao and the others... lmaooo. Though, it gave way for Kenshin to say that Sano is one of the people he most respects, which made for a pretty nice moment. Back to Makoto and Houji though, what Houji was laying down was a pretty good plan... but it was a cowards plan, and we know that that isn't how he rolls, so yeah. Still though, pretty badass the way he bit his fingers off. showed how committed and loyal he is to Makoto. Liked the anime original scene they added with Kenshin and Seijuurou. We don't get to see much of him after this arc, so any more content of him, even if little like that, is nice. But probably the highlight of the episode for me has to be the talk with Kenshin and Kaoru on the rooftop. It's one of my favorite scenes in the manga and just Kyoto arc in general, and they did it perfectly. We didn't get to see much, if any, Kenshin and Misao scene this season, so again, it was nice to have.... even if they didn't kiss like Yahiko would have wanted xD Was sweet when everyone showed up at the top of the roof. The chemistry these guys have will never get old. Loved this season from start to finish as a big Kenshin fan. Came in knowing that they wouldn't adapt all of the Kyoto arc, and yeah, the anime original additions to make sure that didn't happen were nice. Just hope that next season is only tweleve episode, as that'd probably be the sweet spot to adapt everything, plus some more anime original additions as well. Maybe even a master of flame adaption. The constant disrespect Sano’s going through since he came back isn’t even hilarious at this point lol. I mean people just refuse to learn his name or even when they do, dude gets judged by his looks as a certified ruffian.. lmaoo. Still no one can deny the fact that he played one of the most important, if not the most, role when they went up against Shishio’s crew on ship. That’s the reason as well he’s getting invited for this duel. Anyway, be that as it may, they somehow needed to get back on the track after all the original stuff this show went through since the last so many episodes, so yeah, hence all this set-up. But yeah, this somehow changes my feelings as well for this season as a whole, because I was really expecting them to cover the entirety of Kyoto arc this time. It might have felt a bit rushed but at least we would’ve been able to see the actual climax of this arc. I mean that is how it was in the original as well. Though the original stuff did give a bit of characterization to a few characters, which I’m not sure how much we’d see of going forward, but okay. So yeah, just a set-up for the sequel, which tbh, not just this episode but the entire season felt like lol. Now to whenever the sequel comes. |

The finale of the prologue to the Tokyo War, with the ED being the OP. After reading the letter from Hajime, Sanosuke joining Misao and the other members of the Oniwaban Group to prep facing Shishio and the Ten Swords, he may look like a man of doubt given his shady appearance, though Kenshin trusts the former heavily given his repertoire. On the other hand, Hoji convening a meeting between Shishio and the Ten Swords on how to handle Kenshin, Sanosuke and Hajime by using Sojiro, Usui and Anji, given their failure in the Great Kyoto Fire. Still, the mastermind himself doesn't want things to be handled by someone who doesn't understand his plot, and Hoji ranting on how he wants absolute victory on the minimalist of damages, Shishio guilt-trips him on taking responsibility fot the plan's failure ultimately. A 3-on-10 battle that Kenshin awaits the duel while having a moment with Hiko, even Kaoru has worries on how he'll face the onslaught against the backdrop of mastering Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu's ultimate attack. Of course, the romance fight between the two and Megumi still stands, though everyone is as ready when they are to face Shishio and his clan. A good follow-up season, though a slower approach going into Season 3 that encapsulates the 2nd half of the Tokyo War, whenever it comes. |

BANGER FINALE! I need the next season injected into my veins right away, thank God we don't have to wait too long and got the announcement already. I was gonna be so mad if they skipped Yama's Burn this week since it's an absolute bop, opening up with the ED and saving the OP for the end credits after that last 2-3 minute sequence was dope tho. Really got me hype. It's kind of crazy to think we're basically going right into the big showdown with Shishio, Aoshi and the strongest of the ten swords tomorrow in universe time lol. That's such a fast turnaround and I'm really worried about how Aoiya are gonna handle the other 10 swords.. next season is gonna be really interesting. Speaking of the ten swords, that Shishio and Hoji scene was crazy. "when did you get the rank to give an opinion" had me dying, but when he saw Hoji's determination ripping his own nails off, even Shishio had to acknowledge his plan. I was so ready to call Hoji a dumbass for still simping for Shishio when it looked like he was gonna sell him out to protect himself from the 10 swords seeing he used them as a distraction, but I guess it paid off lol. I do think that's gonna end up being Shishio downfall tho. I'm at least pretty sure Anji will end up turning on him. That nighttime roof convo with Kenshin and Kaoru was so good, but LMAOOO because where tf did Megumi come from? I swear Kenshin got one of the most entertaining harems ever lol. Everyone just casually being up in the middle of the night to reassure Kenshin he could trust them to protect the city was sweet, but funny as hell lmao. God I am gonna miss this cast. This was better than season 1, can only imagine how good season 3 is gonna be. Had a blast for each and every one of these eps! BURN will be on repeat until season 3. |

To first quickly talk about the episode I think seeing Hoji's dedication to Shishio was really cool seeing his development through the season has been surprisingly interesting. This episode generally served as a good wrap up and prelude to season 3 which I believe was announced to be in the works. Now to talk about the season as a whole I've never watched the original series so I can't speak for if this was a good adaptation but generally I never hear many complaints so I assume its fine. Voice acting was great and the animation was very good generally, a bit choppy here and there but overall good. I think this season was good but that's mostly coming from me just liking the show and characters in general the build up to a extremely disappointing climax was what really hurt this season for me. However I think Shishio is an amazing villain not and held this season together very well. And also seeing Aoshi's perspective through this season was very interesting too. Apprehensively going to rate this season the same as the first. My memory is a little hazy from the first season but generally I think I preferred this season 8/10 |

This season was trash, a disgrace and a slap in the face to the audience. I haven't seen such a blatant dragging since the late 90s/early 2000s animes. The content of this season could have easily fit in 12 episodes. They just didn't want to end the season in the middle of the main battle for some reason, but when the pacing of a show is dictated by the structure/format of the season, it doesn't feel like storytelling anymore, more like advertizing, trying to push new audience to buy the manga. I hate when these producers do this. When an anime is great and doesn't play that game, we still want to get into the manga, no need for that blatant commercial baiting tactics. |

the visuals are just fine an while the story is considerably more interesting than its previous season, its only just good enough to keep one watching, action scenes are few an they arent particularly impressive an the pacing gets quite slow towards the end, the new extended scenes arent particularly interesting 6/10 |

underwhelming finale for an underwhelming season, felt like 23 episodes of build up, not saying it was all bad the new characters introduced were pretty good from the allies to the villains and there's some pretty cool episodes in there but i feel like they could have put all this in 12 episodes Now atleast season 3 is already announced and i'm guessing that's where the main dish is, will we finally see that giant villain that was teased Overall i'm going between 5.5 to 6, might be 6 because the two opening songs and visual were fucking amazing. |

Aoshi waits at the torii to continue his own duel with Kenshin... |

And so we end with tests of resolve on both sides as we prepare for the upcoming final battle at Mt. Hiei. I suppose it's fitting that the first of my Winter 2025 shows should end on the first day of Spring. And I've got somewhat mixed feelings on this season of Kenshin. Granted it didn't exactly adapt the strongest material, but it was still a tad on the slow and stiff side I thought. Some of the changes worked better than others. Dragging out the Great Kyoto Fire was an interesting choice. That's actually where I left off reading the manga ATM, just after it, mostly because those last 4 out of print VizBig volumes are so hilariously overpriced and I don't want to read it digitally. I do know how this arc ends though, having watched it via the original anime back on Toonami nearly 20 years ago now. My god, has it really been that long? Well anyway, I'll still give this a slightly generous 8/10. Now the only question is when we'll get the rest of Kyoto adapted... |

Turning the ED into the OP with an AMV was unexpected but a cool way to start the episode. And despite this being pretty much a setup episode for the next season, it was a great stopping point for now. We pretty much have the roster for the final battle against Shishio, the trio of Kenshin, Sanosuke and Saito will be taking on three of the Ten Swords while the rest go fuck up Aoiya, a pretty dastardly plan but I can’t even blame this on Shishio, he was planning to have a proper duel but Houji wanted to absolutely ruin their opposers. Really tho, I can’t help but respect Houji here for his determination, even in the face of Ten Swords potentially slaying him right there, this man might be stronger than everyone in the room when it comes to willpower lol. And of course we got some nice moments between Kenshin and the gang, the rooftop bit was especially nice, Kaoru is gonna have to work harder if she wants to beat Megumi lol, and everyone else randomly being up in the middle of the night was a funny addition to the otherwise wholesome scene, but it made it even better really. And we’re leaving this off with the badass trio taking off to duel Shishio, this is it for now but I can’t wait for more, hopefully that Season 3 announcement is true because I need it lol. And that’s it for Rurouni Kenshin once again, I’m sad to say goodbye to it for the second time but man what a good season it was, biggest complaint I have is that the “Great Kyoto Fire” and the Rengoku ended up being a bit underwhelming, but even then I think it was a great time, and contrary to what others are saying, so much shit happened this season beyond those climactic moments that you can’t say this season was purely buildup, that’s just false information imo, but it is true that Shishio was not dealt with this season despite him being the main villain, that’s all the more reason to be excited for the next one tho. All the OP and ED choices for this season kicked ass too, I don’t think I can even compare them, they were all so good. And unfortunately I still haven’t seen the original anime, I plan to one day for sure, but for now I’ll be patiently waiting for what they cook up for this remake next, I’ve been loving it. |

Okay, so the second season of Rurouni Kenshin (2023) comes to an end, and that's two-thirds of the Kyoto arc adapted. But... where is the announcement of the third season? Is Lidenfilms too busy with the Cat's Eye (2025) remake to do a third season of RK (2023)? Need the rest of the Kyoto arc to be adapted, so we can finally get to the Jinchu arc. Anyway, I'm glad this remake is decent, as the pacing is not rushed and the animation is not a slideshow, unlike the Shaman King (2021) remake, which was rushed and was a slideshow. Lucky that I like Rurouni Kenshin as a series in general, and that I don't really like Shaman King as a whole. And it's lucky that the RK remake isn't rushed and the animation is above-average. Also, if they're able to end the season abruptly in the middle of an arc, then a sequel to HxH (2011) should just hurry up and happen already! The current arc in the manga doesn't need to end before it gets animated, and they could just make a 2 cour season and end it abruptly too. |

A dual between Shishio and his ten swords against Kenshin, Saito and Sano huh. Loved to the mod they did for the OP. Megumi chirping in when they doubted Sano was amusing. Given their actions thus far the enemy was bound to notice the help that the Oniwaban provided Kenshin and co. Using Hoji as the scapegoat was quite the fitting punishment for him. Curious to see that onetime member of Shishio's group appear again after the death of his friend. The rooftop scene was pretty damm fun. It's always best to ensure that all eventualities are covered before departing for a great battle after all. That final scene though was just wow. Can't wait to see s3 now. |

Not going to say much about this episode because barely anything happened, but overall the season was just okay? Giving it the same score as Season 1/cour 1/whatever, but I was hoping for a stronger follow up given how big they made Shishio seem at the end of that first part. This just felt like it dragged. I'm unfamiliar with the story (old tv show or manga) and heading into this season I was expecting a lot more action and dramatic moments/cliff hangers, but there was so much down time. We got a look at the ten swords but they barely did anything. Shown a giant several episodes ago but then he just disappears for the rest of the season. Many of the ten swords took action during the Kyoto fires, but what they did mostly happened off screen. Just felt underwhelming. |

But for now, previously i kinda dislike the end of Kyoto great fire arc, tho this last episode shall intricate me more to see the next. If any.... |

Kenshin, Saitō and Sano have all been challenged to duel Shishio and the Juppongatana at Mt. Hiei.
Swapped ED and OP? The sped-up animation was weird, anyway...AMAKAKERU!
The Oniwanbanshū don't trust Sano one bit 😂 Megumi had already proved herself by healing Okina. They take Kenshin's word that Sano is one of the men he trusts the most.
Hoji defies Shishios's wishes by suggesting something devious; only the three strongest fight at Mt. Hiei (Sojiro, Usui and Anji). with Shishio and the remainder attack Aoiya, the headquarters of the Oniwanbanshū who assisted the police and Kenshin.
Shishio tests his loyalty by pinning the plan to make the Great Kyōto Fire a diversion (thus, potential abandonment of the Juppongatana) on Hoji. Subjected to torture by Usui, Hoji tears his own fingernails, and from there he's allowed to do the dirty work...the Anji and Sano matchup will sure be awkward.
I think anticipating the Aoiya attack is part of the reason why Kenshin went to Hiko Seijuro again with sake. The grunt has nowhere to go now but gets advice and a bandage as he crosses paths with Kenshin who's lived life wandering and struggling.
That officer who's recovering was really heroic, Saitō entrusts the searching for stragglers and upholding security in Kyōto to him.
Kenshin still has a fear of reverting to Battōsai if he uses the ultimate technique to its fullest potential as he nearly killed Seijuro with his Sakabatō, but holding back on speed too much he might lose. Kenshin still has a fear of reverting to Battōsai if he uses the ultimate technique to its fullest potential as he nearly killed Seijuro with his Sakabatō, but holding back on speed too much he might lose. Kaoru gives him the medicine from Megumi, perhaps as reassurance, but Yahiko has been watching. Ironically, taking Kaoru away to encourage her to make a move before Megumi does allows Megumi to sneak in.
Yahiko wants to participate in the duel meant for the three strongest but Kenshin lets him know he can stay defend Aoiya, which is where Misao jumps in as that's supposed to be her job, she's more bubbly than last episode and counts on Kenshin to return Aoshi. The Oniwanbanshū believe they've got this.
Kaoru came all the way to Kyōto to meet Kenshin. Seeing off Kenshin in the morning, he says yes to coming back to Tokyo together with a smile.
Aoshi waits at the torii to continue his own duel with Kenshin...
@Fortress_Maximus This is the second show this season that swapped OP and ED. Is this some new trend? |

Ok conclusion, the whole thing about Shishio and Hoji was the best part of the episode. |

Pretty okay season overall. In terms of introducing new characters, new abilities and etc it felt more like an introductory appetizer before the big events. Looking forward to the next one. |

Ripping off your own fingernails to get your point across, that's truly something In the end of the day, the fact the Tokyo fire didn't blow up too huge was a bit of a letdown for my expectations. But in spite of that, Kenshin has been a good show. There were a share of new characters I liked, and Kenshin has been getting upgraded with techniques. I hope Season 3 delivers. |

Using the ED song for the OP and summarizing the events of the season in order to present them like an AMV of sorts was such a cool idea. Man, gotta respect the dedication and creativity of the staff working on this project. Nice setup episode to conclude another highly enjoyable season of this remake. Scene with my man Houji showing his commitment to bring victory to Shishio was the highlight without a doubt, but also gotta say the part with Kenshin and Kaoru on the rooftop + everyone progressively joining them was fairly lovely in my opinion. All in all, an engaging finale from beginning to end if I'm honest. Very good season overall. Two thirds of Kyoto Saga were covered and though it's a shame said Saga wasn't completed within this season's runtime, I'm starting to think it was for the best. After all, Kenshin going to Mt. Hiei was always the strongest and most exciting part of the Saga and the idea of having a whole 12-episode long season dedicated to the events surrounding his visit to Shishio sounds like music to my ears. In that regard, anime-original content implemented to expand the arcs before Mt. Hiei's was fantastic in my opinion. Not to mention it helped to give more depth to characters and events that didn't feel all that solid to begin with. So yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the way this season's narrative was approached and hope Season 3 receives a similar treatment. 8/10 - Really looking forward to the sequel now. Man, Kenshin vs. Shishio is gonna be so damn good! |

@MoeGod wtf are you smoking, the 1st anime took 35 episodes for the whole Kyoto + Shishio arc to be done and that's without fillers. and you expect them to finish it in 23 episodes ? |

Actually, a large portion of the community thought they would (including me), at first. The previous adaptation extended a lot of scenes, and the showdown between the Juppongatana and Kenshin-gumi had a lot of build-up still frames too. 23 Episodes was too short anyway, which is why we were dubious about a possible rush, but in the end, they went for the opposite and preferred to slow down the pacing even more than the 1996's Anime with many additional scenes. |

The final episodes weren't as good as the first half of the season, but overall it was a strong adaptation of the manga. Let's hope season 3 also lives up to the source material. |

I don’t know but I feel the anime really slow don’t know if it’s because I’m old or what also yahiko is so fucking useless I don’t know in the manga but holy crap… |

@kaimax the OG anime never felt this slow. This one is just 23 episodes of a whole lot of nothing. Even the climax is milquetoast so I'm not sure why they chose this kind of pacing and end it at this point. You can be faithful to the manga and still rework/cut some scenes to flow better in the anime. |
